Making a difference

One of the ways in which the Foundation aims to ‘make a difference’ is by helping primary and secondary schools in Kettering to fund a programme for local gifted and talented students. This is part of a national scheme to improve the education of such children and young people aged 3-19 in schools and colleges throughout England.

Gifted and talented students are defined as those who have developed (or show the potential to develop) one or more abilities that are significantly ahead of the norm for their year group. They may be identified by scoring highly in certain tests, by being spotted by their schoolteachers, or by performing above their age level in some particular activity.

  • Gifted students have the ability to excel academically in one or more subjects, such as english, science, mathematics and technology;
  • Talented students have the ability to excel in practical skills such as sport, leadership, artistic performance, or in an applied skill.
