Outdoor activities for young people |
| The Foundation has for many years operated the Robert Jeffery Centre in South Wales - an outdoor activity centre that offers residential courses for young people from schools within the Borough of Kettering. The Centre is named after Colonel Robert C Jeffery, a Kettering surveyor who was Clerk to the Foundation from 1852 until his untimely death in 1989.
The range of experiences offered by the Centre includes climbing, canoeing, walking, nature studies and a visit to a coal mine museum. The effect of bonding young people from the same form in school is considered to be invaluable. In some cases it may be the first time a youngster has ever stayed away from home. |
Management and supervision |
| The Centre is heavily subsidised by the Foundation, and is run through a Management Committee that includes Governors and others who are interested in this important work. The substantial regulation requirements are monitored carefully, and the activity centre itself is managed locally by a course instructor and an administrator. | |
